Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, I spent much of 2020 co-authoring a study on working adult learners and their labor-market counterparts: rank-and-file hiring managers who fill job openings every day. The report was published by SkillUp.org (here) and endeavors to answer the question: why have so-called “dual-customer training programs” largely failed to change the economic circumstances of millions?
In 2019, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis asked me to use language to help their deeply wounded organization heal and rebuild trust. Through a series of ‘ideology’ workshops, I crafted a ‘Cultural Constitution,’ which served as a touchstone in a department-wide retreat where norms were officially re-set. I presented and delivered beautifully printed and bound copies for the 75-person group (press files here).
